Ceramic braces are often referred to as clear braces. This is because the natural colour of ceramic braces makes them appear clear in colour.
Ceramic braces work in the same way as traditional braces that are called metal braces. A wire or bands are used in conjunction with ceramic (or clear) braces in order to straighten teeth. This can correct crooked teeth, misaligned teeth and even help with missing teeth. Clear ceramic braces are also often used to help correct an improperly aligned bite or jaw.
Advantages Of Clear Braces or Ceramic Braces
Clear elastics and white coloured metal can also be used to that everything from the brackets themselves to the wires or bands are the least visible.
These advancements certainly make this type of braces a good choice for many people because people tend to feel more confident when the braces they are wearing are less visible.
Disadvantages Of Clear Braces or Ceramic Braces
A slight disadvantage of some ceramic clear braces is that the brackets may be larger than the brackets with metal braces. But, since these braces are the colour of natural teeth they are less visible so this offsets the down side of possibly having larger brackets.
Another disadvantage is that clear ceramic braces are not as strong as metal braces. For this reason they are more prone to breaking. In addition, the length of time you need to wear these braces may be longer than with metal braces. |
